Classes
Whether you are a seasoned dancer or a beginner looking to try dance for the first time, at MOVE IT 2008 there is something for everyone. All classes are open to everyone unless otherwise stated, with some specifically for children, experienced and professional dancers as well as those for disabled participants. Classes will be large. Come dressed to move!
Classes marked "METRO" take place in the Metro Urban Dance Space.

BOP Jazz Masterclass
With international choreographer and director Dollie Henry. Dollie is Artistic Director of Jazz Theatre Company BOP (Body of People) and recognised as one of Britain's most formidable exponents of the jazz art form. She regularly workshops the west end cast of Disney's Lion King. Dollie will teach a section of BOP repetoire that explores the lyrcial attributes of jazz dance focusing on the light and shade of movement and the connection of dance to music. A challenging but spirited class for the advanced/professional dancer looking to expand their technical ability and true artistic jazz pulse. Please warm up before the class.

Jazz Class
Learn a selection of fundamental Jazz moves and put them together to create a show stopping routine, plus tips and tricks to make you a better Jazz performer. Taught by Sue Brice, Head of Jazz at Bird College. Sue trained at Laine Theatre Arts and has worked and choreographed in Germany, Canada and the UK. Sue regularly lectures and examines for the Imperial Society and has choreographed new syllabus content for the new vocational examinations. She also freelances around Europe and the UK both in Jazz and Tap dance.

Hip Hop Class For 12 -16's
Following on from fantastic feedback last year Andy Instone is back to educate and inspire. Andy breaks down real deal hip hop dance and makes it accessible and fun. Andy has choreographed for hip hop heavyweights Sean Paul and Fat Joe and has worked with the choreographers of Missy Elliot, Mariah Carey, Michael Jackson and Jay-Z. Andy is also artistic director of Urban Strides one of the UK’s leading hip hop dance companies.

Over the last few years artists like Akram Khan have fused the classical Kathak style with contemporary dance. Apsara Arts also runs classes in Bollywood dance and other South Asian dance styles.

'Step into Dance' Workshop for Teachers
This session offers teachers the chance to re-visit and re-fresh their dance teaching practice. By unpacking the "core" of each exercise, we will focus on inclusive teaching approaches to technical and creative dance skills. The session will be particularly useful for non-specialist teachers who are delivering dance in their school and wish to build upon their existing skills. The session will also introduce school teachers to 'Step Into Dance' an open access dance programme led by the Royal Academy of Dance and funded by the Jack Petchey Foundation.

Jive Taster Class
Taught by Simon Borland of Jive Nation this class will give you a taste of Modern Jive. Modern Jive is a partner dance which is similar to Salsa, but the big difference is that there is less foot-work to worry about and the learning time is much, much quicker. Jive Nation will have you dancing in no time! Whilst Jive is a partner dance, you don't need to bring a partner and expect to dance to the latest chart tracks – the music is fresh and funky and puts the ‘Modern’ back into Jive! Capoeira Class
Part game, part fight, part dance - Capoeira defies classification. Originating on the streets of Brazil, this beautiful movement style is characterised by rhythmic kicks, sweeps and footwork. Join Mestre Ponciano Almeida and Capoeira Group Cordão de Ouro to learn some basics and experience a distinctive Capoeira class with live percussion, singing and a spectacular Capoeira demonstration in the 'roda' (circle). Mestre Ponciano has taken Capoeira to the silver screen, appearing in Harry Potter and The Goblet of Fire and performing on a roof top for the iconic BBC Capoeira idents.

Modern Jazz Masterclass
A chance to sample the ultimate in modern jazz. Through the rhythm of the music you will explore various jazz styles, showing the use of isolated movements, expansion and relaxation, force and suspension. This fun class for dancers with experience who are looking for a new challenge. This session will be taught by Linda Cook a performer, teacher, adjudicator, lecturer, choreographer and examiner. She is recognised as leading exponent of Jazz Dance and has been innovative in her approach to Modern Jazz and regularly examines for the IDTA . She is also a member of the Modern Jazz Technical Committee which is responsible for compiling the Modern Jazz syllabus for the IDTA.

Robert Hylton Urban Classicism Class
Classic Hip Hop moves with Fred Folkes, an associate member of Robert Hylton Urban Classicism, bringing you the Realness, teaching popping and locking, taking it back to the original styles and bringing back the FUNK! Robert Hylton Urban Classicism (RHUC) produce, perform and educate through hip hop, contemporary dance, music, theatre and film. Fred teaches the dance styles that Boogaloo Sam and The Electric Boogaloos’ created and Fred has been studying locking under the guidance Greg Campbellock Jr who was one of the members of the world famous locking group 'The Lockers’ and Sugapop from the Electric Boogaloo's.

Body Conditioning For Dancers and Teachers
Body Conditioning teacher Julie Pedrick introduces you to a number of body conditioning and Pilates exercises that can easily be incorporated into the warm up and cool down of any dance class. Julie teaches at Arts Educational School, Tring Park where she works closely with the Physiotherapy department.

A released based class suitable for dancers with at least a year of dance training and some specific training in contemporary dance. This physically demanding class will focus on traveling, using the floor and technique and will be taught by Rachel Kay of Masters Performing Arts. Rachel has taught Billy Elliot Workshops for Broadway Stage production. Rachel has also begun her own company, Inko Dancers, which combines contemporary and commercial dance styles.

This class will introduce you to a series of basic Breakdancing moves and get you started and give you vital advice about the correct warm ups and tip and techniques to help you learn to Breakdance safely. Taught by Barry Edmonds of the British B-Boy Association. The British B-Boy Association (BBA) is a voluntary organisation promoting the interests of Breakdancing in the UK and Internationally.
